Construction at Mission Bay High School has been in progress. From a bystander view, it looks like there has been fast progress in the major transformation from a dirt track to a turf track and stadium. We The Beachcomber interviewed one of the construction workers, Peter, for some insight on the project. He told us, “Even through all the weird weather San Diego has had lately with the rain and fires, we are still making good progress. There was one incident with a bird when we had to put our work on hold because it was found deceased. After the bird was looked at, it was concluded it died from natural causes and we were able to continue construction.”

We The BC wanted a runner’s point of view with the impact of the construction for track and field. They went from practicing on the dirt track to practicing on grass. After interviewing Andre Petties-Wilson, grade 12, about the transition of running on grass to turf, he shared, “I feel like turf allows me to showcase my full potential. I don’t have to be concerned for any potholes or issues that I wouldn’t be dealing with during a meet. Practices were much shorter this year compared to last year, but all of us made the most of the time we had to practice.”

Lastly we The BC interviewed Jhavari Ransom, grade 11, about some of his thoughts on the school spirit level next year and his attitude for playing on the new field. Mr. Ransom shared with the Beachcomber, “ I am excited to play on the new football field. I have high hopes it will help bring up the spirit here and I also have a feeling it will increase amongst myself and my fellow Buccaneers. With these upgrades at the school, I know more people will come out to football games, soccer, games, and lacrosse games.”

Overall this construction has a huge impact on Mission Bay High school and the Buccaneers that either work at or attend the school. There is a positive outlook the spirit levels will go up and there will be a more encouraging impact in the environment of MBHS. Once this project is complete, there will be a big shift in everything for the Buccaneers. The only question left to ask is if they are ready for this impactful change and it is a definite yes.
