Did you know that 26 million animals are used every year in the United States alone for animal testing?Animal testing should be banned because it is the main cause of animal cruelty, additionally animals have different genetics from humans so the products tested do not predict accurate results in humans. Living animals should not be treated so cruel.

The main reason that animal testing should be forbidden is because it is the main cause of animal cruelty. The fact that 26 million animals are used to test out products every year is outrageous. This also shows how many animals in the U.S alone, are being affected and exposed to harm everyday. This proves that many toxic chemicals are tested on animals for the benefit of the brand and product. Experts say that, “Animal testing is cruel and inhumane and there are also alternate methods available to researchers that can replace animal testing.” This is important because there is a solution for animal testing. Researchers can simply replace animals with alternate methods.

Another reason that animal testing should be forbidden is because it does not reliably predict the same results in humans. Scientist have proved that 94% of drugs that pass animal test fail in human trials. This clarifies that animal testing is not an effective way of testing out products because animals do not have the same genetics or DNA. So basically, Animal testing is most of the time pointless because animals and humans are similar but not exactly the same.

Some may argue that animals do not have rights, and that makes it ok to test on animals. Not everyone is against animal testing. In fact there’s a good percentage of people that simply do not care about it. The fact that animals do not have rights and they can not speak up for themselves, is true but that does not mean that they should be mistreated. We should be the ones to defend them against animal cruelty and keep them out of harm. Above all I understand that animals do not have rights but that does not make it ok to test on animals.

When students at Mission Bay were asked about their views on animal testing, Jasmine R., 9th grade, replied with, “I don’t think its right for the animals to be treated that way, and its not fair because the animals can not speak up.” The majority of people are against animal testing but are totally unaware of the fact that the products they buy are tested on animals, not always but most times. This can be solved by simply replacing animal testing with an alternate method.
