High school classes find ways to fundraise for special events.

A few months ago, there was meeting held for any students that were interested in helping their class raise money. That meaning, if you’re a freshman and you want to help raise money for end-of-the-year activities for your graduating year, you were welcomed to come to the meeting. I personally attended the meeting and, I was upset by the turnout; whether or not students were aware and didn’t come or just didn’t know about it, it was still a sad turnout. About fifteen students showed up to the meeting. After Ms. McGill talked about the importance of raising money for class and how you can also make it fun, she broke everyone off into their class. Freshmen went with the freshmen advisor; sophomores went with the sophomore advisor, and so on.
During the past couple of months, the classes have been getting together to come up with fundraising ideas and other ways to help raise money for their class. While attending the sophomore meetings, they’ve brainstormed many ideas, including a car wash and a dodge-ball day. Of the seven or so people that attend the meetings, they seemed most fond of the dodge-ball day idea for their first event. Diego Weaver, president of the sophomore class, suggested calling it “Dodge-ball Day at the Bay.” The sophomores plan to hold this event sometime during the middle of May.
It is really important to come out and support every class. Students are putting themselves out there to help raise money, as there is a certain amount of money a class needs to raise before the beginning of their senior year in order to have prom and other activities. To get a better idea, let’s say the Class of 2019 needs at least seven-thousand dollars before the beginning of their senior year in order to have prom but the class only has one hundred dollars by their sophomore year… this should really upset some people. It upsets me even thinking about the possibility of not having a prom. Some people dream of prom ever since their freshman year, and for students to look forward to such a big event just for it not to happen is upsetting.
Although it is up to the students to help raise money and support their class, it is also up to other classes or students to help. With the sophomores’ event coming up, students from every grade should help raise money by attending this fun event. Just as the freshmen may have an event, students of the school should want to go and help raise money. I believe that students in each class should work together in order to make great things happen.
On the other hand, I didn’t know about this big concern to have money by the beginning of senior year until I went to the meeting. If I wasn’t aware, then how many other students weren’t aware? How many students weren’t aware of the meeting? It can be looked at as the school didn’t “advertise” the meeting very well, or the students didn’t care enough. Either way, I feel that students should care and be aware of what is going on. The importance of raising money or at least fundraising should be stressed more in Mission Bay.
I believe that if the students start working together and the school starts getting students aware of the importance of prom and having money for other activities as early as possible, then raising money won’t be that bad. To start supporting fellow classmates and students, go to the dodge-ball day, held by the sophomores, it’s an event welcoming all grades to participate in. Look out for posters with more information and remember to support or get involved with your class.
