Mission Bay High School had their first annual Spring Egg Hunt. The 2013-2014 Association Student Body wanted to plan a great event, so everyone could be involved. The way you played this game was the ASB hid 300 eggs in total. All the eggs had some kind of picture in it. You could only have two eggs at a time and when you brought those eggs to the ASB room, you would get a prize. This was perfect for the kids who don’t really celebrate Easter at home. The prizes were the following: Mission Bay hoodies, Mission Bay shirts, MB Lanyards, MB spiral notebooks, highlighters, MB pencils, etc. The picture that was in the egg determined the prize you got.
We met up with a member of the Association Student Body club, Nadia Salina (Grade 12). We asked her who came up with this great idea for the Spring Egg Hunt. She answered by saying, “It was a group effort from all my classmates. We wanted to get all the students involved, especially the non social ones. Also we want kids at our school to have Mission Bay gear to wear.” This is Nadia’s first year in ASB. The ASB had to wake up extra early to go hide the eggs for the students. “I’ve seen a lot of commitment from this years Association Student Body club,” Said President of ASB LaNina Garner.
We walked around the school Friday, the day of the egg hunt, and saw many students picking up eggs and having fun. There were eggs everywhere: in trees, bushes, tables, the library, and even classrooms. We ran into a nice girl name Niki Moore (Grade 10) and asked her if she had any difficulty finding eggs around school. She responded by saying, “It was actually easy to find them but hard to get to them. A lot of kids were grabbing eggs left and right, and if I saw an egg, a lot of students would jump on it before I could.” It looks like students were having fun with this event. It was a lot more exciting than anyone expected it to be.
The Spring Egg Hunt at Mission Bay High School actually had a great turnout. Although they didn’t make a profit in this event, it was more for the students to have fun and interact with each other. The ASB plan on having another egg hunt next year but with even better tasks and prizes. There are more events coming up for the rest of the year at Mission Bay. The next upcoming event will be a watermelon eating contest. We at the Beachcomber wish ASB the best of luck and look forward to upcoming events!
