Happy Birthday Colin!
On February 2nd, Jennifer, mother of Colin, created a Facebook page for his upcoming birthday, which takes place on March 9th, 2014. She created the page for her son because it was a great way to have all his family and few amount of friends to wish him a happy birthday. Colin is ten years old, from Michigan, and he has been diagnosed with Asperger syndrome. Asperger syndrome is a form of autism, and it holds Colin back from socializing with people. It has also caused him to become more clumsy.
Aspergers is making it difficult for him to complete everyday tasks and make friends. When his mother asked what he wanted to do for his birthday, he said nothing because he doesn’t have friends, and wouldn’t have anyone to invite to his birthday party. His mother had a hard time hearing to this, because she wants her son to live a normal life, but his Aspergers is holding him back from a lot of things.
Jennifer created a page on Facebook for her son in hope to provide an easier way for his family to wish him a happy birthday. She wanted to show him how much people care about him. The page got 8,000 likes in it’s first two weeks, and is currently at 1.9 million birthday wishes! Her plan is to show Colin that, on his 11 birthday, just how many friends he has and all the birthday wishes he has received. People from all over the world have reached out to Colin and wished him a happy birthday, along with inspirational comments.
When asked about the topic on Colin’s birthday wishes, Melissa (9th grade) said, ”I wish Colin a happy birthday, and I think this is a spectacular way to show him he does have friends. I can’t wait for his birthday, and I would love to see his reaction to the Facebook page.”
I can’t imagine how hard it must be for him, constantly feeling like he is alone and I believe the Facebook page is an awesome idea because even the smallest comment can make his day brighter. It truly shows how much people are able to come together and make Colin’s 11th birthday special.

I think that his mother did nice thing for the little one. It probably made his day and many people were able to say happy birth day to colin. So I think she made a good decision doing that for her son and I hope it did make him happy.
