21-year-old August Anthony Alsina Jr., also known as just August Alsina, is a hip-hop singer from New Orleans, Louisiana, who is currently signed by Radio Killa Records and Def Jam. Alsina is an ambitious, young artist whose talent is keeping him successful. He is a young man with a strong New Orleans accent that he is able to hide with his sweet, smooth, and beautiful voice. August has worked with other successful artists, such as Chris Brown, Trey Songz, Young Jeezy, Trinidad James, and others. Alsina was recently added to the 2014 XXL Freshmen Class, along with eleven other successful new artists.
On January 14, 2014 Alsina released his first hit song “Make It Home (ft Young Jeezy)”, as the lead single for his debut studio album, Testimony. August has only been out for almost 2 years, and his music has made a big impact on the R&B/ hip-hop music industry.
The recording time period for the album was about two years which was 2012-2014; that is a while to make an album, but this album has been very successful so perfection takes time. The album made #2 on the US Billboard 200 chart, with 67,000 sales within the first week of the album’s release. The album has also made #1 on the US Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums.
Testimony is mainly about to Alsina’s life, and he tells stories about growing up as a young poor kid in the streets of New Orleans. From Alsina’s father and step father being drug addicts, to his father dying from an overdose, to his older brother being murdered, he tells it all through his music. Alsina shows that his hardships have made him into the person he is today, and all he wants to do is be successful and take care of his mother and his deceased brother’s daughters. Not only does Alsina tell about his life struggles, he also has songs about the usual things R&B singers sing about: love and partying. Overall this album is quite a success and something that is enjoyable to listen to.
