The Fault in our Stars by John Green is a love story between two teens; however, it’s a little different, as they meet in a cancer support group. The book is written from the point of view of Hazel, a sixteen year old with Thyroid cancer which spread to her lungs so now she has to be hooked up to a oxygen tank all the time. Augustus has osteosarcoma, but became cancer free when he had his leg amputated.

This is an amazing book, if you like love stories. The only thing about this book is there isn’t a very happy ending, depending on how you look at it. These two teens went through a lot together, things that people go through in a lifetime and they went through it in a couple of months. They both know they don’t have much time before one of them has to say goodbye forever.

This book shows a unrealistic vision of teen love, that is the only thing that isn’t that good. This is setting us up to meet a boy like Augustus, when in reality we might not find that one guy. Girls will hope and wish for a guy like this, because we want that type of relationship; to have that one guy that is going through the same thing as you, and who can help you through that. That is the thing about teen love stories; they give false expectation, and standards to be held too high. This book is amazing yes, but so unrealistic. It could happen to people and maybe there really was a Hazel and Augustus, and maybe they met at a support group, but that doesn’t mean it will always be that way. This book is something you should read and make your own opinions on.

Read the book, or wait until June 6,2014 to see the movie, but you know what they say: books are always better than the movie.
