Will Google Control Your Home?
Google is a great brand and is very reliable, but are they just doing too much? Google is expanding their network and planning on taking over your homes. This could be a good thing but it can also be a bad thing. Many people fear of computers taking over and by Google doing this it seems like pretty soon computers will take over. I believe that once Google establishes this major move, many people will see Google’s success and do something similar to them.
The way that will make this come together is that Google will buy a smart appliance company and team up with them to make the major move. Google bought the company known as Nest Labs for 3.2 billion dollars. Who knew that Google had that much money to spend? They are planning on hiring technicians from major companies like Apple, Sling and Logitech because judging by the companies past experience in selling they don’t believe that Nest Labs is responsible enough to handle such a big job with all that money invested.
Basically, Google is going to make appliances and gadgets that anticipate your every move and daily routines and then they will adjust to you. It has been said that you will be able to talk to it, kind of similar to SIRI. This endorsement has its pros and cons. I see this as a great thing for people with disabilities because it will make their daily life routines much easier. However, I think many people who aren’t disabled will start to get lazy and pretty soon they will not be able to do things for themselves. Referring to the Disney animated film Wall-E, I fear that the computers will take over and we will not socialize with one another. I’m glad that we humans are developing and creating new inventions that will help us but many people will misuse and not use the Google Appliances for its natural purposes.
When asked about this topic, Melissa, a 9th grade responded with, “I think that’s a really good idea, and I can’t wait till these appliances come out. I don’t think computers will take over, I just think that a new era of technology will be created and I look forward to it.” However, Viridiana 9th, stated otherwise, “I don’t know, I mean it could be a good thing but I see it more as a bad thing because more and more people will become lazy and not want to do things for themselves. Also the more that we consume of technology the less creative we get.”
I’m looking forward to this technology to see how it turns out and I think Google is very brave for investing so much money on something that might not make as much profit as they had hoped. For the most part I think their appliances will sell but then again you will always have people against it.
