On Tuesday April 15, 2012, Google released the Google Glass to the public for a limited time. The Google Glass, if you don’t know, is a sci-fi looking pair of eyeglasses that is basically a wearable computer operated by voice commands. Google has taken the next step in technology by creating these glasses; however, they are not cheap, costing $1,500 without accessories. Google had sent out a one day sale which means that the glasses could only be purchased for one day and that day only, making them incredibly hard to come by. For technology like this I understand why the price is high, but if you plan on making a profit you should at least extend the time of the sale.
How does the Google Glass work? Well, just picture a pair of glasses that are also a computer. This is great for traveling and every day in general. Instead of carrying a heavy laptop, tablet, phone, or other device, you can wear a pair of Google Glass for the same advanced technology that all those items would supply. The Google Glass is a step towards the advanced technologies of the future, because they allow you to surf the web without using your hands at all. Everything about the Google Glass is operated by your voice, similar to Siri by Apple. For people that are always on the go, the Google Glass is perfect because it’s hands free and provides quick results. The Google Glass makes it easier to check the weather, book flights and hotel rooms, and countless other online activities.
The Google Glass released to the public is just a prototype, but Google intentionally made Google Glass for people who want to make experiences better, instead of people who just use it for their own curiosity. So, this was made to help out people to make everyday life better, and not just use Glass to mess around. In other words, Google Glass was made to be taken seriously and not to play with. When asked about Google Glass, Johana Arvizu in 8th grade said,” I think its really cool, and it looks like something that would come out in the future. I wish they weren’t so expensive because I really would want a pair.” The vast majority of people are fascinated by the fact that they can take pictures from their point of view with no hands and the fact that they can get directions that turn with their head. I believe that Google Glass is a great creation that benefits many people because it is hands free and basically weightless. This is the next step into the future, and because of this, I am sure that many other companies will design their own version and might improve on the Google Glass.
