The Lady Bucs basketball team is having a wonderful season with a solid 6-0 league record. Junior guard Briteesha Solomon feels like her team could work even harder and play even better than the way they are performing. “We fool around a lot on the court because not many teams in our league can compete with us. The Western League this year really lacks competition, but we just need to prepare for playoffs,” Solomon stated.
Averaging 24.2 points, 12.9 rebounds, 8.4 steals, and 4.1 blocks a game, Solomon has been recognized locally by the Union Tribune as an Athlete of the Week, she’s also been noticed by ESPN being named the Cal-Hi Sports State Athlete of the Week. University of Arizona commit, Keyahndra Cannon says “We are really looking forward to playing in the CIF championship this year; we have the talent to do it,” she added, “very few teams in San Diego can even hang with us.”
The Bucs took a hard loss against La Jolla Country Day, the number one ranked team in the nation. Solomon produced 19 points, Cannon added 13 points, and J’neiya Burton finished with 12 points, in a 60-79 loss to the LJCD Torreys. The Lady Bucs bounced back strong and went on a 4 game winning streak.
Playoffs being right around the corner, the Lady Bucs look to play at the Jenny Craig Pavilion for the CIF championship game. “It’s my senior year and I want a ring before I leave,” said Cannon. “This is my last chance to get one, we haven’t won one since I’ve been here but we have the team to do it this year.” The last game of the regular season will be held on February 16th, the playoff match-up will be announced the following week. After they figure out who they play, the Lady Bucs look to take each game one step at the time.
Here’s the schedule for the remainder of the regular season.
