El dia de los reyes is a day or better known as the three kings wise men is a religious symbolism of Christmas . It’s celebrated on January 6th 12 days after Christmas in some point of views is the last day of the Christmas season. The three kings wise men is Melchoir, Gaspar and Balthzar who followed the star of Bethlehem arrived bringing their gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.
On this day, we celebrate with la rosca de reyes and a little bit of hot chocolate .The rosca de reyes has dried fruit and decorations it also has a many baby dolls representing baby Jesus. In my opinion, this is an extended day of Christmas where children receive more gifts and honoring the 3 people that’s came to visit baby Jesus when he was born to bring him a gift.
Here are some families that shared their experiences with us. Tania Mejia said, “I don’t know exactly the meaning of this holiday but I still celebrate it,” she also concluded with what she does for the holiday. “l have a small family gathering eating rosca enjoying the moment,” and Christopher Avina stated, ”I love celebrating this holiday it makes me feel so attached and sensitive when it comes to these things.” I think this is great and so wonderful but some people don’t celebrate this national holiday. Like my friend Carmen Munoz “my family and I don’t really celebrate it. For us, it’s just like another day nothing really happens.” For people who celebrate this day its weird when we hear that there are some people that don’t know what it is or simply just don’t celebrate.
Well, holidays are different for everybody and have different beliefs on what this holiday means therefore we should respect each other’s opinions. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and no one should put each other down for what they believe in.
