Frozen yogurt has quickly taken over ice cream in popularity.  It’s slightly tarter than ice cream, as well as lower in fat (due to the use of milk instead of cream).  Frozen yogurt is usually self-served and also offers an assortment of toppings such as fruit, cereals, cookie dough, brownies, etc.  Throughout Pacific Beach there’s a variety of frozen yogurt shops each one varying in popularity, taste, and atmosphere.
Yogurtland can be found at 855 Garnet Avenue, about a block east of the beach and Crystal Pier.  This small and modern chain is definitely a local favorite.  “I think it’s awesome,” says Christina Burkenroad, “You can take as many free samples as you want and it’s really vibrant inside.”  The unique flavors and fresh toppings create endless possibilities, and at 33 cents per ounce, what’s not to love?  Yogurtland is open from 12:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.; it’s perfect after a long day at the beach or for a late-night snack.  Kelsey Boulger says “It’s delicious! I really like how you have the option to sit outside and they have a lot of toppings.”   Whatever the time, Yogurtland will always please your sweet tooth.
Yogurt on the Rocks is another favorite.  This relatively new, indie-owned shop has 36 potential flavors, 8 fresh fruit toppings, 10 desert sauces as well as a large variety of toppings including homemade brownie bites.  Yogurt on the Rocks is connected to Bruegger’s Bagels on the corner of Lamont and Garnet.  It has a comfortable outside seating area, a plasma screen TV, and photobooth.  “Yogurt on the Rock’s yogurt is a lot richer and creamier than Yogurtland; their flavors taste more like ice cream and less like yogurt,”  says Emily Galvin.
Bogart Yogurt is the perfect mom and pop yogurt shop.  It has all the classic flavors and toppings plus fat-free hot fudge.  They offer homemade cookies and, unlike its competitors, Bogart Yogurt makes fro-yo (frozen yougurt) shakes.  “I love how simple the place and flavors are,” says Janae Lopez, “It’s by far my favorite place to get frozen yogurt in Pacific Beach; I recommend the rainbow chips!” Bogart Yogurt can be found at 910 Grand Ave between Rubio’s and Good Time Charlie’s.  Different than most yogurt shops, Bogart Yogurt isn’t self-serve, and you pay based on size, not weight.  Their prices are extremely reasonable and the staff is friendly and respectful.
Whether you’re looking for a fruity treat or a sinfully chocolaty confection, Pacific Beach’s variety of frozen yogurt seems to satisfy every sweet tooth without the added guilt.
