On Thursday, October 13, Mission Bay will be hosting the Drive One 4 UR School Event, by Mossy Ford. Most people might be asking, what is this fundraiser about and didn’t we have one just like this last year near the end of school? Yes, we did, and Mossy Ford and Mission Bay decided to do it again this year, but early in the year. Our school and Mossy really enjoyed the event last year, so they didn’t want to wait. In this fundraiser you test drive Ford’s newest cars from their lineup, like the new, more compact and sportier 2012 Focus, the Ford Fiesta, which is perfectly described as a “Car Created for California,” the Ford Fusion, which is praised for being the most dependable car of 2011, the Ford Explorer which is a Best in Class SUV for its miles per gallon (MPG) and much more. And don’t forget the U.S’s best-selling truck, the Ford F-150 will be there. So just to sum it up nicely how do we raise funds at this event? When your family drives a brand new car in the Grand Ave. parking lot, our school gets $20 as a donation for every car driven! Half of that can be designated to the family’s choice of school club. Talk about a win, win situation! We’ve also received information that many of the clubs from the school will be there, so keep an eye out for their booths, like the A.S.B. one, where members will be selling Buc Pride T-shirts. Other clubs, like Key Club and Surf Club, will be selling food and beverages to enjoy while families attend the event.

Here’s a little heads up about the event. If you are under the age of 18 or if you are 18 without a driver license, you cannot participate in this fundraising event.  Also, here’s another reminder for the people who don’t have cars and take the bus home. You will need someone to pick you up, like your parent if you plan on leaving when the event ends, as there will be no late buses that specific day at that time of 7:30 p.m. Normal late buses run 4:15 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. As Jessie Gutierrez, who happens to know a thing or two about this event since he is the committee chair in A.S.B., he said, “There will be no late buses since it will be 7:30 p.m. when the event ends, but the regular late buses will be there so if you take a bus home, that’s your best chance.” Speaking of the time period in which this event will take place, the Mossy Ford Fundraiser runs from 2:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and each car test drive lasts 15 minutes. Be there to support our school!
